Biography

 

 

Marla von ettenberg is a practicing artist and designer. She received her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art with a major in painting in 1998 and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in painting and printmaking from Brandeis University in 2001. After graduate study in painting and digital arts at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2002, and Pratt institute in New York in 2003, she received a Board of Regents graduate fellowship from the University of New Orleans in 2004.  In 2005 as a refugee from Hurricane Katrina, she went on to study sculpture, painting and art history while based in Rome, Italy and then attend the graduate school of art at Middlesex University in London from 2007 to 2008.  Von Ettenberg received her MFA in painting, photography and digital arts from Claremont Graduate University in southern California in 2008, where she curated art shows on site for the Claremont City Hall. Additionally, she has participated in certificate programs at Pasadena City College in small metals/jewelry and graphic design from 2010 to 2013. Her work has been included in shows in New York, Boston, Rhode Island, Virginia, Alabama, Savannah, New Orleans, Arizona, Los Angeles, and San Francisco; with a solo show at The Maine Street Gallery in Illinois in 2009.

 

In 2008 von Ettenberg was included in Supersonic at the Los Angeles Convention Center and is featured in the LAArt Show catalogue from that venue. In her second group show at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, curated by Los Angeles Times art critic, Christopher Miles, she received a best of show award. Von ettenberg is the recipient of the Grace Berry Award for Intercollegiate Women’s Studies, Claremont Graduate University Graduate Fellowship, University of New Orleans Board of Regents Fellowship, and an award from the Boston Mayor’s Office of Film and Video Production for writing, producing and directing public service announcements.  She was a member of Pratt Artists League at Pratt Institute and President of University of New Orleans Arts League. Most recently She served as a juror for the Desert Artists Guild’s annual juried art show at the Plaza Gallery in Ajo, Arizona and as a director and set designer for the Ajo Players production of a Night of One Act plays von ettenberg  is currently working on projects in Ajo, Arizona.
